There's been a lot of juggling going on at home. I've been writing down thoughts to share later, and I hope I actually remember what the notes I wrote down mean when I have time to write in detail once we are all settled back in the States.
The kids and I have been reflecting on things we will miss, and things we are looking forward to, so I thought I would share a few things here:
Miss:
- Fun people from Sweden and around the world: Friends, family and acquaintances
- Mattias
- Absence of large billboards along highways
- Food safety
- Safety in general
- (Almost complete) Independence from cars
- Independence and safe travel that the kids can use without me driving them
- Low cost healthcare
- The Lund Pediatric Bipolar Team
- Easy recycling
Looking forward to:
- Family and friends back home
- A "bad for you" breakfast from McDonalds
- Replacing/restocking our wardrobes: the kids need clothes of all kinds, and I need PANTS!
- Less choice in clothing stores so we can actually make decisions
- More choice in grocery stores so we can get the things we want
- Grocery shopping less often
- Free carts at the store!
- Diversity
- Back to business as usual in the working environment
- Seeing USA with new eyes
A special bond
I think the most heartwarming moment this weekend was when Tyler gave Tayler a home made birthday card.
Their official day is this coming Friday, but when Tyler has a gift or surprise or something wonderful for someone she has a hard time NOT giving it right away.
The card had the usual sweet drawings on it, but inside, the message said:
"13 years together."
A big difference!
When trying to figure out who someone is: Tayler focuses on the circumstances, Tyler on physical features.
Example:
Tayler to Tyler: I think I saw someone you know at the movie theater.
Tyler: What did he look like?
Tayler: He was staring at me.
Tyler: Did he have glasses?
Tayler: He was looking at me funny.
Tyler: Was he short?
Tayler: I don't know!
Late night antics
I had the privilege of catching the twins playing around in the kitchen the other night on a snack raid.
I had some fun with this morning's post. Read on...
Mattias has the day off, and it was my turn to sleep in. We're borrowing his mother's car so we can get in to the bus and he was going to drive Tayler to school.
I was up entirely too late last night trying to figure out finances.
I fell asleep after coughing fits, and was deeply asleep dreaming about something very interesting when something tugged at me to get up.
Stranded
"Even if I were stranded on a deserted island with another person, I would never eat a... somebody," Tyler said.
"What about a nobody?" Tayler asked.
Obsessions
I picked the kids up after my sleep study and I took us all to our orthodontics appointments. I had previously cancelled mine because I didn't think I would be out of the sleep study in time, but this proved to be an incorrect assumption. I got my five naps in fast and was out of there earlier than most patients. Scott had some stuff going on at work, so I went ahead and took the twins to their appointments, and while I was there, my orthodontist fit me in too.
Logically speaking
"Tayler do you feel safer now that you have a cellphone?" Tyler asked from the backseat.
"Yes."
"Then you shouldn't be afraid of fire or movie theaters or being alone anymore."
No response.

Wednesday was asking the new nanny why she was there.
Tyler said, "She's getting down to business."
They know me so well
I read a recent post from Haddayr and it made me think of my own kids.
My girls occasionally like it when I post about them, but in general, they object.
They know when I pull out the laptop after they've said something that I'm about to post about it.
Scott bought me a shirt that says "I'm blogging this." It's true. I am blogging this.
